Position Summary:
CVI Laser Optics manufactures optical and optomechanical components and assemblies. We are seeking an equipment engineer to oversee our business critical manufacturing equipment to ensure equipment is maintained, continuously improved and optimized in support of our expanding business. The role will work directly with our maintenance technicians to assist in troubleshooting equipment issues. This is a hands-on role and requires focus and ability to prioritize tasks in support of production. The right candidate will have a clear desire to succeed and be effective working in a fast-paced environment. This is a manufacturing facility role and not a “grounds keeping” role. The right candidate will be excited to be responsible for the management of production critical equipment for our 50,000 sq ft. facility which includes cleanroom, laboratory, and fabrication environments. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Leads process of identifying unplanned equipment downtime root causes and develops countermeasures to reduce probability of recurrence.
Leads standardization of key equipment. Collects and analyzes equipment data. Uses data to identify and implement improvements to upgrade, automate, and standardize key equipment.
Leads systematic resolution of key equipment functionality problems. Solves equipment problems independently, cross functionally with other engineering and facilities resources, or with third parties.
Assumes responsibility for, and understands functionality of, existing monitoring and control functionality for key equipment.
Provides recommendations, justification, and qualification for purchases of new equipment. Leads implementation of new and upgraded equipment into the facility.
Hands-on technical oversight of maintenance department’s preventative maintenance program for thin-film coating chambers.
Creates the appropriate documentation for equipment preventative maintenance and reaction plans, in partnership with maintenance team, using industry best practices.
Creates, defines, and documents maintenance processes and trains maintenance staff as needed.
Works with IT as production equipment software support and is comfortable learning new software programs with an emphasis on software/hardware updates/upgrades as needed by the business.
Supports production team efforts in machine, efficiency, and facility improvements.
Support Continuous Improvement events for facility optimization.
Other duties/ functions as assigned by the Manager or his/her designate.
Professional, Educational, and Technical Requirements:
Required
B.S. or higher in Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering or a closely related field.
Well-developed troubleshooting, problem solving, root-cause determination and analytical skills.
Experience with PLC (programming logic control), HMI (human machine interface) and automation control.
Ability to read, understand, and apply a variety of job-related instructions and documents, including engineering drawings.
Understands electrical and facility schematics
Desired
Experience with vacuum systems, vapor deposition equipment, and high voltage manufacturing equipment.
Experience with Ether CAT controls
Experience working within teams of engineers and technicians in a production environment.
Project planning, project management, and stage gate process experience.
Five or more years of experience with manufacturing equipment & facility improvements.
Direct experience with facility systems, including HVAC, compressed air, and chilled-water systems, power distribution and controls.

Physical Demands And Working Conditions:
This is a hands on position requiring wearing cleanroom attire and working in a cleanroom environment. As an Engineer, standing, kneeling, reaching and occasional lifting 30+ lbs may be required to repair equipment. To perform some tasks, you will be required to wear PPE and must be willing to safely work with hazardous materials & chemicals. SCBA will need to be used for gas bottle changes.
This position typically demands significant physical exertion, including prolonged standing and walking, frequent bending, crouching, climbing ladders, reaching into tight spaces, lifting and carrying moderately heavy objects (up to 50 pounds), pushing and pulling, and sometimes crawling in restricted areas depending on the work environment; requiring good hand dexterity and overall physical fitness. To perform some tasks, you will be required to wear PPE and must be willing to safely work with hazardous materials & chemicals.
