IDEX Thin Film Coating Engineer in Boulder, Colorado

Position Summary:

The Thin Film Coating Engineer supports coating processes, including design of optical coatings, metrology and measurement and process development.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Creates new coating processes or modifies existing coating processes

  • Designs new thin film coatings for production

  • Identifies and drives technology development

  • Solves problems in coating production by working with production team

  • Provides costing and manufacturability guidance to sales for quoting

  • Meets production schedules by establishing or adjusting work procedures

  • Assists and consults with operations, sales and customers regarding products

  • Works with Coating Technicians to ensure proper set-ups and reviews of coating designs

  • Works in conjunction with the Machine Shop in the design and fabrication of new equipment and the repair of old equipment

  • Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists employees in solving work problems

  • Sets, follows and enforces all safety regulations

  • Recommends changes as needed

  • Other duties as assigned

Ability to:

  • Organize and prioritize work

  • Work well with others and other departments

  • Communicates effectively, relating instructions and information clearly and precisely asking for feedback when appropriate to ensure that instructions are understood correctly

  • Demonstrate and practice a detail-oriented approach to work

  • Work well with time and production restrictions

  • Read and understand a variety of job-related instructions and documents

  • Interpret graphs and chart recordings

  • Ensure consistency in coating and Department personnel procedures

  • Analyze and problem-solve

  • Perform a wide variety of tasks simultaneously

  • Perform advanced mathematical modeling and calculations

  • Demonstrated experience with design software

Professional, Technical and Educational Requirements:

  • B.S. in Physics, Optics, Engineering, or related science field. Advanced degrees preferred.

  • Two or more years’ experience in optical coating/thin-film deposition processes in a manufacturing environment

  • Extensive knowledge of high vacuum systems, Evaporation and Sputtering technology

  • Familiar with data analysis tools

  • Strong understanding of material science

  • PLC automation experience and product development experience preferred

  • Background and experience in project management a plus

  • This position requires all applicants to be U.S. Persons

Compensation Information:

  • Pay Range: $85k - 100k/year

  • Bonus: This position is eligible for company discretionary bonus
