IDEX Engineering Manager in Brenham, Texas

The Engineering Manager is responsible for developing, organizing, and executing all engineering (new product development and sustaining engineering) activities for the PPE LLC business. This includes setting strategic and tactical engineering objectives, assisting with new product development, leading and developing the engineering team, and managing engineering resources for PPE LLC. This position will require considerable hands-on time as the engineering department in Brenham is growing. Knowledge and willingness to step into the role of a manufacturing engineer at times will be required. The position is based in Brenham, Texas. Close collaboration with our partner site in Blackburn, UK is required.

Manage and execute day to day and long-term PPE LLC Engineering related activities and needs. These will include but not be limited to the following:

Leadership, Talent, and Team Development

  • Provide leadership to the organization and support to the management staff on strategic, cross-functional, and change initiatives

  • Set both long- and short-range goals and hold engineering team accountable

  • Structure, manage, and mentor the engineering team to achieve optimal performance

  • Conducts performance appraisals with engineering team on annual basis, setting goals and objectives, completes regular feedback sessions, reviews training, and develops team

  • Meets or exceeds product development and engineering targets.

  • Support all other departments, vendors, distributors and customers

  • Responsible for delivering business results to the corporation

Strategic Development

  • Develop strategic and tactical plans in pursuit of growth, productivity, and profit objectives

  • Prioritize new product opportunities and recommends development plans

  • Work with process owners to ensure that the KPIs are collected to monitor progress

New Product Development

  • Create, define, and lead the implementation of technology and product platform roadmaps

  • Utilize a defined, toll-gate NPD process (DMEDI), to manage and lead new product research, design, prototyping, and development

  • Manage product development and coordinate product development activities with Sales, Supply Chain, and Operations to ensure product requirements meet VOC (voice of customer) requirements and can be effectively launched

  • Create technical budgets, allocate resources, and project manage schedules of product releases and/or project deadlines

  • Maintain and drive key engineering metrics including new product development as a percentage of salesManufacturing Support / Sustaining Engineering

  • Support manufacturing and procurement objectives focused on Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost.

  • Support cost-reduction, quality improvement, and/or efficiency projects

  • Oversees all product modification and improvement activities with strategic objectives in mind

  • Ensure all designs are in alignment with Operations and Sourcing goals and capabilities

  • Lead compliance with regulatory requirements and standards

  • Authorized to stop shipments for non-compliance to regulatory and quality standards


  • Engineering budgets, project budget, new and current product development schedules

  • Product conformance to applicable national and international standards, including weights & measures and safety approvals such as ATEX and PED

  • Design/product safety, primary product responsibility

  • Most uphold the highest ethical standards in the conduct of your employment with the Company and to personally abide by the IDEX Standards of Conduct and Business Ethics Policy


  • B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Engineering (or comparable). An advanced degree is a plus.

  • Exposure to Design for Six Sigma and considerable strength/experience in new product development process and systems

  • 7 years of progressive engineering experience in highly engineered, high-mix low volume businesses

  • 5 years of supervisory or management experience

  • Past experience & demonstrated ability to use SolidWorks

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills are required

  • Demonstrated ability and experience working in a fast-paced, deadline oriented global environment is required

  • Problem solver with excellent technical abilities
