IDEX Health & Science is looking for a talented, self-motivated Manufacturing Engineer with strong CNC programming background to join its operations team in Bristol, Connecticut. IDEX designs, develops, and manufactures OEM fluidic systems and precision components which are used in life science and healthcare instruments to improve the quality of life. Our products control the delivery and management of critical system fluids in medical diagnostics, biotech & analytical instruments, such as blood testers, drug discovery systems, DNA sequencers, and HPLC analyzers.
This role supports engineering of our precision machined plastic manifold products, integrated fluidic electro-mechanical assemblies and subsystems. This role also supports deployment of new technology projects, machines, complex tooling, work holding technologies, and continuous improvement initiatives.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Participate in initial design and product requirements review.
Participate in quote, order reviews, utilize experience and knowledge in innovation, bringing new “best in class” techniques to practice, to enhance quality, cost reduction and throughput.
Examine drawings to determine tools, fixture requirements, special materials, or items to be ordered.
Design special tooling and work holding. Complete tool requisition or drawing and forward to toolroom or vendor. Prepare requisition for other items to be purchased.
Use 3D modeling to generate CNC program for multi axis CNC milling and turning machines. Prove out programs in tight collaboration with experienced prototype machinist.
Create all engineering documentation necessary to manufacture parts.
Contact tool room, purchasing, receiving, or other personnel to follow up on procurement or production activities.
Maintain manual/digital records of tools, fixtures, program, inspection sheets, and work instructions.
Support technical lead personnel with troubleshooting of machines, tooling, and fixtures.
Provide production and assembly support in technical matters related to interpretation of engineering documentation, ECOs, rework, and manufacturing specifications, perform training as required.
Lead deployment of new technology projects, machines, tooling, and work holding technologies, work thoroughly with new product prototype machinist, engineering team, act as site technical liaison within the organization and outside suppliers.
Support 3D printing process of complex prototypes from modeling, set up to completion.
Support Quality on root cause analysis and corrective action, for product returns under customer complaints.
Track all activities in the new product/re-engineering board. Update NPD project tasks using project management software, while communicating with broader operations team, R&D engineers, external vendors, and internal stakeholders in completing tasks and projects.
Associate degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Bachelor’s is a plus or technical school plus 8 years related experience and/or training.
Must be skilled and competent in CNC machines technology, VMC, HMC and turning, with extensive multi axis programing experience including macros, probing, tooling touch offs and other.
Proficient in advanced three-dimensional CAM software, i.e. MASTERCAM.
Proficient in GD&T and drawing analysis.
Knowledge of 3D CAD software i.e. SOLIDWORKS is a plus.
Knowledge of software and tools used in 3D printing, willing to learn and master details.
Knowledge or experience with precision machining of thermoplastics material like Acrylic, PVC, PC, COC, PSU, Ultem, Peek and other.
Knowledge of plastic joining processes, injection molding, thermoforming and/or plastic casting/extrusion is a plus.
Thorough written/verbal/teaching/listening skills and attention-to-detail.
Demonstrated PC, Microsoft Word and Excel skills.
Self-starter with desire to learn, grow, and ability to work in both team environment and autonomously.
Multi – task oriented with ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and ensure goals and timelines are met.
Ability to make logical decisions and take actions to solve problems while exhibiting good judgement, listening skills and understanding of issues and process interactions.
Background in manufacturing programs i.e. Lean manufacturing, DMAIC Problem Solving, Continuous Process Improvement, Statistical Process Control (SPC), Design for Manufacturability (DFM) is a plus.
Work environment includes office environment, testing and assembly areas, laboratory settings, clean room areas and production environment.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The range is $80k - $110k and will commensurate with experience. We take the compensation of our employees very seriously and consider several factors when determining the total compensation package including but not limited to location, market range, skills, knowledge, experience, and abilities. The base salary range represents the low and high end of our salary range for this role. The range listed is just one component of our total compensation packages for our employees.
