Position Title: Manufacturing Engineer

Classification: Exempt

Reports To: Director, Operational Excellence

Advanced Flow Systems (AFS) includes the Liquid Controls and Corken branded products that make fluid transfer safe, accurate, and efficient. Liquid Controls primarily provide metering, fluid handling and data ecosystem for truck-based custody transfer of highly valuable fuels. They have product solutions to support other downstream oil & gas custody transfer applications as well. Corken offers a wide variety of industrial compression and pumping solutions for the process, energy, and transport industries. Applications include Autogas filling stations, bulk plant pumps, tank car unloading, delivery truck, and transport. AFS is headquartered in Oklahoma City, OK and sales/service office in Chicago, IL and an employee base of approximately 220+.

The Manufacturing Engineer will report to the Director of Operational Excellence and is responsible to develop, implement and maintain methods, operation routings and processes in the manufacture, fabrication, assembly and testing of parts, sub, and final assemblies. This position also interfaces with and serves as intermediary between the engineering design, quality inspection and production implementation functions with respect to new product introductions. Applicant must have the ability to continually improve the quality, manufacturability and value of current products utilizing Standard Work, Flow, 5S, Kanban, SMED, and other Lean tools, estimate manufacturing costs, determine time standards, and make recommendations for tooling and process requirements of new and existing product lines. Will maintain records and reporting systems for coordination of manufacturing operations ensuring robust processes are in place.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists Director of Operational Excellence in improving a system of production control, standard operating procedures, safety, quality control and training.

  • Performs research, design and development of manufacturing processes including production flow, assembly methods and production equipment.

  • Prepares and maintains detailed layouts of buildings and equipment.

  • Coordinates the manufacturing launch of new/revised products including establishing goals, training team members, and evaluating results.

  • Designs, develops, and tests and/or sources and cost-justifies various tools, machinery, and equipment for recommended manufacturing methods.

  • Performs product/process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement, and improved efficiency.

  • Represents manufacturing on cross-functional teams.

  • Utilizes various tools to determine root cause of failures, recommends and implements improvements.

  • Identifies opportunities to improve efficiency or reduce costs using knowledge of lean concepts, tooling and production equipment, assembly methods, workflow, and equipment layout.

  • Participates in rapid improvement / kaizen events.

  • Supports implementation of 5S facility wide.

  • Evaluates existing fixture designs for machining, assembly, and test operations.

  • Documents and maintains processes for manufacturing operations such as Bill of Material (BOM), tooling, fixturing, gaging, etc.

  • Assist in the preparation and processing of Engineering Change Requests & Notices.

  • Supports the quality department with root cause countermeasure analysis of customer returns or complaints

  • Supports the Focus Factory Managers with disposition and root cause countermeasure of assembly and machining scrap

  • Supports new product development by performing detailed feasibility, project timing and cost estimate studies.

  • Leads process development and integration efforts for introduction of new and redesigned products.

  • Supports the Engineering team in management of CNC programs, design of required tooling/ work holding fixturing and establishment of time studies, standards, and routings for production requirements.

Knowledge and Skills to Have (Not Preferred):

  • Data Analytics & Data Governance

  • Knowledge of Generative AI

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field

  • 5 years’ manufacturing and/or process engineering experience in heaving machining and assembly environment

  • Experience working with ISO 9001 or QMS systems.

  • Ability to read/interpret engineering drawings

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Continuous Improvement Methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, TOC) preferred.

  • Experience with MRP systems a plus

Work Environment:

  • Exposure to manufacturing environment. Noise level may vary from moderate office environment to noisy/loud in the plant area.  Proper use of safety equipment such as steel-toed shoes, goggles, safety glasses, gloves, apron, and face shield must be observed.
