Position Title: Supplier Quality Engineer
Date: November 2021
Travel: Up to 75% Travel
Reports To: Sr Supply Chain Manager
As an integral part of the AFS operations team, the Supplier Quality Engineer will lead and execute all supplier quality activity to support the business operations targets. This individual will be responsible for developing new processes and capabilities within AFS and its supply base that result in improved supplier quality, delivery and cost performance.
Identify gaps in existing enterprise quality system and implements new processes and procedures
Analyze quality performance of existing suppliers and implement corrective actions for rapid improvement
Visit suppliers to conduct process audits and lead corrective action reviews to streamline supply chain processes and mitigate supply chain risk
Develop supplier quality strategy alongside the commodity management team
Qualify new parts using APQP/FMEA/PPAP tools, etc.
In case of critical quality issues, visit the supplier to conduct full root causes and corrective action analysis using a variety of problem-solving techniques.
Includes both Supplier Quality Assurance and Supplier Quality Development. Includes supplier qualifications, action plans, audits, performance monitoring, and assisting key suppliers towards industrial standards of excellence. SQEs have various levels of differentiation which are related to level of technical understanding of engineering drawings and ability to manage vendors
Evaluate potential new suppliers through on-site assessments
Drive culture of zero defects with the supply base and internally at Advanced Flow Solutions
Provide guidance and quality oversight for key suppliers to ensure suppliers are aligned with AFS Quality, Regulatory and Industry standard requirements. Ensure controls meet AFS and other applicable regulatory requirements and identifying quality needs, product improvements and customer requirements
Drive and Support sustaining activities in supplier management ensuring supplier compliance and capability for Qualification, Approval, and Sustaining activities. Ensures adequate design control documentation and records are maintained to support life cycle of design history
Ensure site adheres to Supply Chain Policies and Corporate procedures and programs.
Visibly and actively supports other functional plant initiatives including safety, wellness, engagement, etc.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Experience accepted in lieu of education.
Minimum five (5) years’ experience in a Quality/Supplier Quality in a manufacturing environment working in an ISO or industry equivalent regulated environment.
Strong background in Manufacturing processes including process development and optimization
Demonstrated experience with successfully implementing and applying APQP, FMEA, PPAP, and other related processes
Demonstrated experience using formal and informal root cause analysis and project management tools.
Experience with Lean Manufacturing.
Preferred Education and Experience
Ability to lead cross-functional process improvement teams w/ strong problem solving and analytical skills.
Demonstrated success in driving results through others through collaboration and competency excellence.
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Power Point).
Experience in driving aligned actions through groups that don’t directly report to them.
Self-motivated with the ability to simultaneously manage multiple time-sensitive tasks.
Must be detail-oriented and possess excellent prioritization skills.
Strong communication and presentation skills. Must be able to effectively interact with all levels of staff.
Office and shop floor environment. Occasionally handle heavy parts and equipment. Noise level may vary from moderate office level to noisy/loud in plant area. Proper use of safety equipment such as steel-toed shoes, goggles, safety glasses, gloves, apron and face shield must be observed. Periodic equipment testing responsibilities in both indoor and outdoor labs utilizing various fluids and gases (EDM fluid, propane, natural gas).
