BUSINESS UNIT OVERVIEW:

Semrock, Inc. based in Rochester, New York develops and manufactures high-performance optical thin-film filters that set the standard for biotech and analytical instrumentation. Semrock is a rapidly growing company, with revenue from both the volume OEM sales of tailored products and from the sales of standard catalog products to end-users. Semrock’s optical filter products are set apart by their state-of-the-art performance and reliability. Major markets include optical filters for fluorescence imaging and measurement systems, for Raman spectroscopy systems, and for laser-based analytical instrumentation.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

The manufacturing equipment technician will be a key technical resource for the operations team focused on ensuring the maintenance and quality of the mechanical equipment used in our Finishing operation. The technician will work with the equipment vendors, manufacturing engineers, Finishing value stream manager, and facility team to achieve the uptime goals of the department.

PROCESS DEVELOPMENT :

This technician will create and document a preventative maintenance program for all equipment and tooling used in our Finishing operation. Communicate and schedule vendor maintenance of our equipment and monitor critical spare inventory. Key success factors will be reducing our unplanned downtime.

FINISHING PRODUCTION SUPPORT:

This technician will be a daily resource to assist the production team with trouble shooting equipment issues surrounding filter shaping, cleaning, beveling, laser engraving, and assembly processes. Key success factors will be effective communication, minimizing unplanned equipment downtime and maintaining internal production yields as related to equipment performance.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

  • At least 2 years’ experience in a manufacturing capacity

  • Experience maintaining equipment and tooling

  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to interface with all levels of the organization

  • Experience developing new processes

KNOWLEDGE & REQUIRED ABILITIES:

  • Mechanically inclined

  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment issues, accurately and quickly identifying the root cause

  • Capability to plan maintenance initiatives

  • Organized, motivated, and able to prioritize multiple tasks without direct supervision
