The New Product Development Engineering Manager is responsible for developing, organizing, and executing all new product development activities for the business and developing the engineering team to enable future scaling of talent. This includes setting strategic and tactical engineering objectives that drive innovation and on-time product launches.
This manager will direct new product development projects and collaborate with a cross functional team to develop product and technology roadmaps that lead to continuous product innovation. They will be responsible for managing engineering resources to deliver on-time product launches and regular project status communication to the company.
The New Product Development Engineering Manager will significantly influence the long-term technical direction and technology vision of the business unit by his/her ability to effectively analyze and redirect resources through engineering and product development that effectively meet or exceed the requirements of both internal and external customers.
Leadership, Talent, and Team Development
Provide leadership to the organization, including communication to the business regarding project targets and statuses.
Conducts performance appraisals with the engineering team on an annual basis, setting goals and objectives, completes regular feedback sessions, reviews training and develops team members to align to future needs of the business.
Set both long- and short-term goals and hold engineering team accountable for delivery of results.
Support senior staff on strategic, cross-functional, and change initiatives.
Structure, manage, and mentor the engineering team to achieve optimal performance.
Consistently meets or exceeds product development and engineering targets.
Support all other departments, vendors, distributors and customers.
Willing and able to undertake domestic and international travel in support of business needs.
Develop Strategic and Tactical plans in pursuit of growth and profitable objectives.
Prioritize new product opportunities and recommends development plans.
Work with process owners to ensure that the KPIs are collected to monitor progress.
Use 8020 methodology to eliminate unnecessary product complexity to drive profitability and to achieve product growth.
Develop long term roadmap for VAVE projects and execution.
New Product Development
Works cross-functionally to oversee all aspects of a product development project from concept to launch.
Develops and executes a new product development plan in accordance with Company process.
Works closely with Sales, Marketing, and Commercial Leadership to ensure the product solution meets the customer’s expectations and requirements.
Create and manage technical budgets, allocate resources, and project manage schedules of product releases and/ or project deadlines.
Maintain and drive key engineering metrics including new product development as a percentage of sales.
Makes intellectual property disclosures and assist company with applications.
Works hands-on to develop, test, and evaluate product designs, as needed.
Designs in compliance with applicable agency standards (e.g. API675, CE, ATEX, IECEx).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
BS degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or comparable). Master’s Degree in Engineering or MBA preferred.
A minimum of 7-10 years of demonstrated success in an engineered product manufacturing operation, including significant management experience and excellent technology assessment capabilities.
Previous experience with software launches, GUI development and Software Engineering teams
Experience in hydraulic systems including operation, design, and integration of instrumentation.
Experience in Diaphragm, Solenoid and/or Rotary Pumps preferred.
Experience in a process focused, manufacturing organization (Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, Value Streams).
High proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
High proficiency in solid modeling and analysis (Solidworks preferred, FEA/CFD).
Must have a proven track record, demonstrated by a progressive level of growth in responsibility.
Experience in working with globalization initiatives, acquisition analysis, due diligence, preferred.
Experience with electro-mechanical assemblies.
Familiarity with API675 agency standards required.
Familiarity with DFSS, DFM, FMEA, tolerance analysis, and Risk Assessment methodologies
Proven track record of delivering results through collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team and talent development.
BS degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or comparable)
Master’s Degree in Engineering or MBA preferred
A minimum of 7-10 years of demonstrated success in an engineered product manufacturing operation, including significant management experience and excellent technology assessment capabilities
