Job Description and Responsibilities

IDEX Health & Science, Rohnert Park, CA is looking for a talented, dynamic Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE). The SQE will ensure that products meet purchase specification and quality/reliability requirements. Additionally, they will drive process improvement through supplier manufacturing process, incoming inspection, and in-process data analysis. The SQE will interface and build cooperative working relationships with suppliers, customers, and internal organizations.

Essential Job Functions

  • Performing supplier quality assurance functions pertaining to external materials and component suppliers.

  • Managing supplier databases, performing initial evaluations of new suppliers, and re-evaluation of existing suppliers, conducting audits of proposed new and existing suppliers, performing Risk Assessments and evaluations of suppliers.

  • Leads quality improvement projects that drive continuous improvement through utilization of tools such as DOE, Six Sigma, DMAIC, FMEA, SPC, 8D Root Cause Analysis, and Lean.

  • Applies appropriate control plans to achieve problem containment, and then drives corrective and preventative actions to address the determined problems and audit as required to verify effectiveness of actions.

  • Processing, reporting, and tracking Supplier Corrective Action Reports (SCARs).

  • Responsible for supplier activities relating to: development, process capability, technical gap analysis, qualification, and monitoring of quality and on time delivery performance.

  • Coordination of Material Review Board activities and feedback to supplier.

  • Actively work with suppliers on closed loop corrective action process incorporating continual improvement and process improvement methods.

  • Must be able to travel (by air, train, bus and/or automobile) to customer and supplier sites throughout the world. Travel estimated to comprise up to 20% of job-related activities.

  • Maintain composure and professional approach when dealing with public.

  • Ability to make decisions logically.

  • Capable of focusing on details with regards to procedures and workflow.

  • Communicate clearly and excellently in English, verbally and in writing.

  • Maintains a complete awareness of the cost of quality and promote activities to monitor and reduce quality costs.

  • Coordinate the first article approval process between the organization and suppliers.

  • Other assignments as needed.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in engineering discipline.

  • Minimum of 5 years experience as a supplier quality engineer required.

  • Strong analytical skills required using Excel and MiniTab for example.

  • Experience with electronic, electro-mechanical, and mechanical assembly.

  • Experience with Six Sigma toolbox, FMEA preferred.

  • Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 or similar regulatory and international quality system standards desired.

  • Must be able to identify and recommend effective solutions to problems, utilizing technical problem-solving tools, and working individually and with others within and outside his/her function.

  • Must have capability to review, analyze, summarize and interpret quality systems data, draw conclusions, make appropriate decisions, recommendations and write reports.

  • Must be able to manage multiple projects and report progress against goals in an objective and clear manner.

  • Proficiency in the use of personal computers and computer database software, including Microsoft Office applications (Access, Excel, Word and PowerPoint). Visio and Project knowledge desirable.

  • Familiarity with the use of ERP/Document Control systems (e.g. Oracle, JDE, Adobe Acrobat, AutoCAD).

  • Must show self-initiative but be very comfortable in the role of a team player.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

The work environment includes a laboratory setting, an office environment and extensive exposure to a production and manufacturing environment.
