As a member of the Manufacturing Engineering team, you will be primarily responsible for supporting Engineering, Sourcing, and Operational objectives to drive efficiency and productivity. The Engineering Designer - Manufacturing is an integral part of the Engineering team that will focus their efforts to developing manufacturing layout drawings and bills of material for all products designed and manufactured at the Waterloo site.
Reports To: Manufacturing Engineering Manager
Position requirements include, but are not limited to:
Create detailed manufacturing drawings and instructions to support Operations and Strategic Sourcing. Support shop floor personnel during manufacturing process development.
Work with the Engineering department to implement DFMA (Design for Manufacturing & Assembly) improvements to promote total cost savings.
Participate in Make-vs-Buy decisions to ensure we understand our manufacturing capabilities and capacities.
Collaborate with the shop floor to establish correct order of manufacturing operations, times and equipment selection when designing a newly engineered component.
Design and create jigs, fixtures, and custom tooling when required.
Work with Manufacturing Engineering to identify and evaluate new technologies to manufacture components more efficiently.

Education and/or Experience:
Related post-secondary education in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering and/or equivalent work experience within a “job shop” type environment with high part variation.
Good working knowledge of different disciplines within manufacturing including Machining, Welding, Fabrication and Assembly.
1-2 years’ related experience.
- Strong written and verbal communications required. Ability to interact clearly and confidently with all levels in the organization.
Expert CAD level skills in Solidworks; working skills in AutoCAD
Proficient with Microsoft Office suite
Knowledge of Visual Manufacturing ERP software an asset
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Good organizational skills – You know what needs to get done and when it needs to get done.
Able to work independently – You know your priorities and can plan to keep things on track.
You can read and interpret manufacturing drawings and know how they relate to relate to manufacturing operations.
Strong interpersonal skills - You are comfortable developing relationships and discussing projects with manufacturing and engineering staff.
Can articulate manufacturing processes and instructions.
Strong desire to learn - You love to ask questions and learn from all the experience throughout our building to design accurate manufacturing routings.
Hands-on individual with the ability to pitch in and roll up your sleeves to work with our various teams to get things done.
Knowledgeable in machining, welding, and automation technologies would be an asset.
