Mission: Manufacturing Engineer – Optical Systems

The Optical Systems Manufacturing Engineer will be a key resource for the ME team, contributing to developing optical systems for automation projects and optimizing manufacturing process, instructions, and training for optical assembly. The Optical Systems Manufacturing Engineer will also serve as a mentor and consultant for technicians who are assigned to trouble-shoot problems in manufacturing.

Position Summary

The Optical Systems Manufacturing Engineer will participate on the ME team to optimize and deploy new products and automation to the manufacturing department. This engineer is expected to have a depth of knowledge about optical systems which will allow them to quickly master new technologies, optimize the technologies, and train technicians and production workers.

All members of ME team are expected to be role models for IDEX’s values of Team, Trust, and Excellence.

Desired Skills and experience

  • Optical table-top setup and alignment

  • Understanding of 3rd order design principles

  • Detectors, system tests, and data acquisition

  • Lean value streams

  • Developing new manufacturing processes

  • The Stage-gate process to execute projects

Minimum requirements

  • B.S. or B.A. in relevant technical disciple

  • Experience deploying technology to manufacturing

Key Metrics for this position will be:

  • Production labor efficiency after hand-off to manufacturing

  • Minimum amount of manufacturing Eng. support needed after release to manufacturing.

  • Minimum amount of R&D and ME support needed after release to manufacturing.

  • Projects delivered on time and within budget

  • Creatively invent solutions to achieve metrics
