REPORTING TO: EHS & Sustainability Manager
LOCATION: West Henrietta, NY

SCOPE OF ROLE:
The Safety Specialist/Engineer is responsible for implementing the Life Science Optics Safety Program to help ensure that al employees recognize and understand hazards in the workplace including chemical, mechanical, electrical, and physical hazards. The Safety Specialist/Engineer creates and administers the procedures and training elements that support the safety program including early intervention, injury investigation, root cause analysis and corrective actions. The Safety Specialist/Engineer manages inspections and audits that confirm the effectiveness of the safety program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Perform Job Hazard Analysis that identify potential risks and risk mitigation strategies
Review New Chemicals, New Processes, and New Equipment (Change Management) to ensure proper safety protocols are considered
Manage chemical Safety Data Sheet system, Hazardous Waste Program, and reporting requirements
Coordinate employee exposure assessments, ergonomics Process, and respirator fit testing
Perform walkthroughs, inspections and safety auditing identifying and tracking improvements to completion
Lead Safety Committee activities, participate in daily morning markets, and communicate safety issues
Ensure required safety training is complete for all employees and maintain training records
Directly responsible for corporate and internal safety reporting
Effectively communicate new initiatives, standards, regulations, significant incidents, and management directives to internal stakeholders
Liaise effectively with Statutory Authorities, Local Municipalities, OSHA and OHS Representatives as needed
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field
Certification preferred (e.g., Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH))
3+ years of safety experience in the field of occupational safety in a manufacturing environment
Familiarity with federal, state, and local regulations
CPR/First Aid certification a plus
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Outstanding demonstrated verbal and written communication skills
Attention to detail and organizational skills
Demonstrate effective interpersonal, negotiation and persuasion skills
Experience in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Data analysis, charting, and presentation skills
