Under direction of the Continuous Improvement Director, the Industrial

Engineer will improve the throughput, quality, productivity, and associated

costs of foundry, machining, and assembly processes, for the delivery of

highly engineered products manufactured in a high mix-low volume


Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • 50% - Assembly Process Improvement, 50% - Foundry Process Improvement.

  • Determine best manufacturing processes using Industrial, Mechanical, orFoundry Engineering, and lean manufacturing/six sigma tool sets.

  • Implement cost reduction initiatives supported by observation, workanalysis, time study, lean methodology, and best practice design of foundrypatterns, gating, and core boxes.

  • Analyze and determine need and payback for capital improvement projectsto reduce manufacturing costs.

  • Determine work routings by analysis of processes needed for manufacture.

  • Develop work instructions and maintain the work instruction file in orderto comply with ISO 9000 requirements.

  • Determine assembly time requirements using work analysis and/or timestudy. Design assembly tools and fixtures to support product assembly.

  • Determine the low cost alternatives for repair and replacements offacility systems and equipment.

  • Attend the Product Change Meeting and implement changes to workinstructions and routings.

  • Participate /support Rapid Improvement Events (R.I.E’s) for the foundry,assembly and machining departments.

Secondary Responsibilities Include:

  • Facilitate Training Workshops for Lean 101, SMED, 5S and Problem Solving.

  • Fill-in machine shop supervisor as required.


Experience and Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering,Foundry Engineering, or equivalent.

  • 3-5 years of experience with established track record in IndustrialEngineering or Foundry Engineering, lean methodology, and six sigma from ahigh mix-low volume environment, not automotive.

  • AutoCAD experience required, 3D CAD experience preferred usingPro-E/Creo.

  • Blueprint reading.

  • Mathematical analysis.

  • Lean manufacturing concepts and implementation experience using thefollowing lean tools: Quick Changeover (SMED ), Single-Piece-Flow, 5S,Plant Layout, Kanban, Quality At The Source, P.O.U.S., Batch Reduction,Visual Factory, VSM, Takt Time, Lean / Six Sigma Certification.

  • Experience with casting and machining processes a plus.
