The Lighting Engineer supplies the design and management skill set for lighting related product engineering and maintenance of heavy duty truck and bus products. The Lighting Engineer shall have the skills and background requirements of the Project Engineer with an emphasis on optical design and lighting related standards and requirements. The Lighting Engineer is also responsible for complying with the company’s quality system procedures as documented.

REPORTS TO (Title) :

Director of Engineering


  • Project design, development, and validation usually associated with lighting related products and services.

  • Documentation, specification of materials and components, development and control of project design plan, project scheduling and budgeting, product cost estimates and quotations, product design, customer interfacing for product scope and validation, and continual product improvement through technology, processing, and cost reduction.

  • Regular interface and relationship development with customers.

  • Understand quality and State safety regulations.

  • Knowledge of changing products in the marketplace.

  • All other duties as assigned.


  • BSME or BSEE as appropriated to the electrical or mechanical nature of design responsibility.

  • Lighting Engineer will have 5+ years of experience in lighting related product engineering and/or project management.

  • 2+ years of lamp design/engineering experience preferred.

  • Project management, and understanding and use of problem-solving techniques.

  • Background in automotive related design practice is preferred.

  • Strong problem solving skill set, excellent documentation and record keeping practices, and a working knowledge of SAE, DOT, and other industry standards and government requirements as applicable to product design, testing, validation, and certification.

  • Experienced with project team and management principles and practices.

  • May be assigned direct technical reports such as technicians and/or interns.
