Under direction of the Engineering Director, the Senior Electronics and Firmware Engineer will be responsible for inventing and developing new motor control systems in conjunction with compelling embedded processor software for the Fire truck, Military, and Industrial firefighting markets. Provide electronics and software engineering support to mechanical and technical service departments. Ensure that electronics and software engineering design requirements are properly implemented and documented.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Proactively drive all aspects of development projects to meet design specifications and schedules. In conjunction with Reliability Engineering, ensure that designs are thoroughly tested; production test codes are written, and operating instructions are complete and ready for product launch.

  • Design, develop, test, and document embedded motor control electronics and software for vehicular Fire, Military, and Industrial firefighting markets.

  • Develop code and algorithms, ensure they are thoroughly documented and revision controlled and conform to performance requirements.

  • Develop schematics, specify components, ensure designs are documented and conform to performance requirements.

  • Drive the development of detailed technical software specifications from design criteria.

Secondary Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist technical service department with quick identification of product failure modes and countermeasures.

  • Performs sustaining engineering work, including identifying obsolete component replacement, software configuration and field service enhancements.

  • Support electronics needs of mechanical engineering and reliability engineering teams.

  • Provide electronics failure analysis support for customer returns and warrantied products.


Experience and Background:

  • Bachelor degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.

  • 10 years of experience and established track record with C programming and debugging embedded firmware.

  • Background in programming for analog signals, PID control loops, and DC motor controls a plus.

  • Familiarity with Freescale and ARM microprocessors..

  • Experience using Keil, Cosmic, & CodeWarrior development tools is desired.

  • Familiar with industry coding standards and code reviews.

  • Working knowledge and experience with the following technologies: Wi-Fi,USB, LoRa, NFC

  • Circuit design experience with microprocessors, switching power supplies, analog signal conditioning, and DC motor drives.

  • Experience with CE and UL product certification.

  • Altium Schematic Capture and PCB Layout Experience desired.
